Photoacoustic endoscopy (PAE) probe developed using coherent fibre bundle offers several advantages over conventional distal-end scanning probes. However, to obtain good quality images we need to overcome some of the technical challenges associated with coherent fibre bundles, such as optical cross-talk, high numerical aperture of the individual cores, reflections from end face of the bundle, modal interference, etc.
After months of testing various coherent fibre bundles, I have put together a comprehensive report that addresses these challenges and provides a feasibility overview of PAE probes developed using coherent fibre bundles.
