{"id":1663,"date":"2016-06-03T15:56:16","date_gmt":"2016-06-03T14:56:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.cs.ucl.ac.uk\/gift-surg\/?p=1663"},"modified":"2016-06-03T15:56:16","modified_gmt":"2016-06-03T14:56:16","slug":"fetalmri","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp1.cs.ucl.ac.uk\/gift-surg\/2016\/06\/03\/fetalmri\/","title":{"rendered":"First fetal research MRI scan at UCLH"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On <strong>18 February<\/strong> the team performed their first fetal research MRI scan at University College London Hospital (UCLH), after being awarded\u00a0full ethical approval from\u00a0the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hra.nhs.uk\/news\/research-summaries\/gift-surg-fetal-mri\/\">Hampstead Research Ethics Committee<\/a>\u00a0and the NHS Research &amp; Development approval at UCLH.<\/p>\n<p>Additional participants for the study are being recruited through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uclh.nhs.uk\/OurServices\/ServiceA-Z\/WH\/MAT\/FMU\/Pages\/Home.aspx\">UCLH Fetal Medicine Unit<\/a>, which is inviting patients whose clinician has advised them to have an MRI. Participants have been advised on how the procedure will be carried out and how data from their scans will be used, as well as any potential health implications, through the <a href=\"http:\/\/wp1.cs.ucl.ac.uk\/gift-surg\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2016\/06\/Fetal-MRI-PIL-5.pdf\">Patient Information Leaflet<\/a>, which was developed in association with our <a href=\"http:\/\/wp.cs.ucl.ac.uk\/gift-surg\/media-engagement\/patient-and-public-advisory-group\/\">Patient &amp; Public Advisory Group<\/a>. \u00a0The MRI scans are taking place in the Radiology Department of UCLH and are reviewed by the clinical radiologist.<\/p>\n<p>The images from the first scan\u00a0have already been used to develop a novel algorithm for MRI post processing which is currently under journal review and the team hope to increase their sample size.
